Inpatient care is a level of care provided to hospice patients who are experiencing uncontrolled pain and other distressing symptoms that cannot be managed at home. In some situations, the provision of care is complicated. The patient and family need additional support and intervention that can be provided in an inpatient setting. Inpatient care can be provided at the Woltz Hospice Home or in a local hospital.
Respite care is a level of inpatient care provides short term breaks for caregivers of hospice patients. Respite care is limited to five (5) days and cannot be provided more than once in a 30 day period. Respite care can be provided at the Woltz Hospice Home or in a local hospital. When possible, Respite care is usually a planned event that provides a period of rest or relief from caregiver duties on an occasional basis. Hospice staff continues to support and manage the patient’s care during a respite stay.
Palliative care focuses on improving quality of life but is not the same as hospice care. The goal of palliative care is to relieve the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illness – whatever the prognosis or life expectancy may be. Particular attention is given to the prevention of distressing symptoms and assessment of needs. Palliative care is appropriate for people of any age and at any point in an illness. It can be delivered along with treatments that are meant to cure you.
There are times when a patient’s care cannot be provided at home.
